Susan Shepherd Blalock

Susan Shepherd Blalock of Franklinton, NC passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on April 14, 2025, at the age of 74.

Susan was born February 10, 1951, to the late Cabot and Frances Fields Shepherd in Durham, NC.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Ronnie Blalock; son, Chase Blalock and wife Christy of Creedmoor; daughter, Laurie Scoggins and husband Chad of Durham; grandchildren, Colin Scoggins, Sarah Van Auken, and Hayden Van Auken; brother, Charles Shepherd and wife Eloise.

A woman of faith, Susan was a longtime member of Angier Avenue Baptist Church in Durham.

Susan loved her family deeply, especially the joy of watching her grandchildren grow up. She found happiness in the simple pleasures of life—tending to flowers in her yard, shopping and spending time at the beach. She was a wonderful cook who took pride in preparing meals for her family, always bringing everyone together around the table.

A passionate sports fan, Susan especially enjoyed cheering for her grandchildren. Her competitive spirit matched her compassionate heart, she was always thinking of others, putting their needs before her own, and offering support, encouragement, or a listening ear whenever it was needed.

She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend whose warmth and love left a lasting impact on everyone who knew her. Susan's gentle spirit, loving nature, and selfless kindness will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.

A graveside service will be held Thursday, April 24th, 2025 at 11 a.m.at Maplewood Cemetery, 1621 Duke University Rd., Durham, NC 27701. Rev. Kevin Byers will officiate.
