Thomas “Tom” C. King

DURHAM- Thomas “Tom” C. King, 88, of Durham passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at his home.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Gracie King, his children, Thomas C. King, Jr. (Lola), Benita June Wessinger (Dave), Catherine King Hathcock (Garry), and Beth King Medlin (Phillip); his grandchildren, Thomas C. King III (Amy), Brooke Johnson (Patrick), Nicholas Batten, Emily Flores (Juan) and Brantley and Tyler Hathcock; and his great-grandchildren, Casey and Alan Johnson, Camryn King, Camila Flores, Benjamin Reed and Griffin and Kyndall Gentry. He was preceded in death by his daughter Jo Ann King.

Mr. King served his country for 24 years, the majority of that time was spent in the U.S. Air Force. He worked for Duke University for 20 years, most of that time as Chief of Police. He devoted his remaining years to his family, being a loving husband, father and Papa.

Graveside services with full Military Honors will be held at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens on Friday, April 24, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. Dr. C.J. Bordeaux officiating. Pallbearers will be Thomas C. King III, Nicholas B. Batten, G. Brantley Hathcock, R. Jarratt Watkins, Juan A. Flores and Patrick C. Johnson.
