Vernon Bryant (Turk) Martin, Jr.

Vernon “Turk” Martin Jr., 80, of Durham, died Friday, October 22, 2010, in Duke Medical Center. Mr. Martin was born in Durham to the late Vernon B. Martin Sr. and Elizabeth Currin Martin. He was employed with Arc Electric for 30 years and Lee Air Conditioners for 12 years. Mr. Martin was a member of Andrews Chapel United Methodist Church. Surviving are two sons, James B. Martin of Raleigh and Rodney R. Martin and wife, Jennifer L. of Durham; a daughter, Vicky Lee Martin and husband, Billy James of Durham; a brother, John E. Martin of Belmont; two sisters, Ruby M. Gardner and Mary M. Holben, both of Durham; and three grandchildren, Sarah Martin, Jessica Martin and Brad Martin. Mr. Martin was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene Martin; a brother, Billy Martin; and a sister, Ann Cooley. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Andrews Chapel United Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Shannon Conklin-Miller. Entombment will be in Oak Grove Mausoleum. The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hudson Funeral Home.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Vernon B.
