Wanda Townsend Chase passed away peacefully Sunday night following a brief illness. She was born December 23,1958 in Durham to Jack and Sarah Townsend, the baby sister of her big brothers Jack Jr. (JT), David, Wayne, and Curtis. Wanda has deep ties to the local area. She grew up on a little farm on Page Road where her husband and daughter still reside. She came from a large and loving family and felt her childhood shaped who she became. She was a women generous in spirit, with her time, and with her laughter. Everyone who met her, liked her, and everyone who got to know her, loved her.
She graduated from Southern high school and then moved to Lawton, Oklahoma where she attended cosmetology school. She met her husband and soulmate Robert Chase who was stationed at Fort Sill near Lawton. In the years to follow, Wanda and Bob moved several places up and down the Rockies, loving Idaho the best. Wanda spent several years in Boise and Stanley, Idaho building close ties and memories with her husband’s family. The early years were filled with penny pinching, fun-on-the-cheap, and love and laughter with their daughter Courtney
Suzanne soon to follow.
One of Wanda’s favorite memories of those years was her seventh wedding anniversary, being seven months pregnant with her long awaiting Courtney, splashing and playing in the high-mountain hot springs in Atlanta, Idaho. It was her wish that when Robert’s time comes to join her, that their ashes be scattered together near the springs. Wanda, Bob, and Courtney returned to familiar grounds in North Carolina to be closer to her parents and bothers. She enjoyed renewing childhood friendships and embracing new ones
including her best pal and confidant Gail Rabon.
She graduated from North Carolina Central University in 1997 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. After graduation she went to work for American Anesthesiology (formerly Critical Health Systems). She loved her job and often spoke of the many friends and
experiences she had there.
She was a dedicated, loving and fun mother. She was always willing to give her time to the things that were important to her daughter, including being a Girl Scout Leader, taking her troop trips and camping and fund raising through the PTA for animal protection and care for the elderly. Central to her life was love: for her child, her husband, her family, her friends, life. Wanda embraced life to the fullest. She had an amazing spirit, a kind and compassionate heart and a personality to be envied. She enjoyed everything life offered from smiling at a stranger to cheering on those she loved most. She will be remembered most by her family for the love and happiness she made them feel. She is leaving a legacy than cannot be
described but can only be felt deeply by those she leaves behind.
Wanda leaves behind a legion of friends, family and loved ones. She is survived by her husband Robert Chase and daughter Courtney Chase, brother, Wayne Townsend and his wife Pamela, and many beloved cousins, and nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and other brothers.
