William Edward Ray

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of William Ray, who left us on March 17, 2025. He was a man of kindness, generosity, and a deep love for the simple joys in life.

William had a passion for tractors. He was always mowing or piddling in the yard. He was just as at home behind the grill. He was always ready to cook up a feast of pigs and chicken for family, friends, or anyone who asked. He spent over 30 years helping Ruritan clubs throughout the community. His chicken was a favorite of many.

Above all else, he loved his wife, Jewel, his two children and their spouses, Thomas and wife Dawn Ray and Nicole and husband James Caddell and his beloved granddaughter Aubrey Ray and fiancé Matthew Dew. His love for them was endless.

Willam had a heart as big as his smile, always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He never met a stranger. His kindness and generosity left an imprint on all who knew him, and his presence will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his siblings Millard Ray and wife Mary, Milton Ray and wife Lilian, Bobbie Jean Pennington and Lewis Ray and wife Patsy.

A celebration of his life will be held on June 8, 2025, at the Oak Grove Ruritan Club, 2 o'clock where we will share stories, laughter and a meal in his honor—just the way he would have wanted.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you carry on his legacy donating to his son's nonprofit for kids with cancer.
