DURHAM Mr. Willie Herbert Murray, 89, a resident of Durham, died on Wednesday, May 28, 2014.
Mr. Murray was a native and lifelong resident of Durham, the son of the late Gattis Herbert Murray and Mittie Maybelle Simpson Murray. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II. He retired after over 30 years from the Durham Fire Department. He was a member of Mars Hill Baptist Church in Hillsborough and served as Deacon Emeritus. He was preceded in death by his wife, Colleen Murray.
He is survived by his son, Thomas, W. “Tommy” Murray and wife, Debi of Surfside Beach, S.C.; one daughter, Brenda K. Ray and husband, Buddy of Hurdle Mills; brother, Norman Murray, four sisters, Virginia Young, Mayo Morris and Janet Shambley all of Durham and Earline Young of Apex; 7 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Woodlawn Memorial Park, officiated by Rev. Daniel L. Gregory and Rev. Ralph Harrell. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 12:30 to 2 p.m., before the service at Hudson Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Outreach Ministry in memory of Mars Hill Baptist Church, 1418 Hwy 57, Hillsborough, NC 27278.
