Mr. Willie David “W. D” Wynne, Jr. passed away after a brief illness on Saturday, April 29, 2023, surrounded by family.
Mr. Wynne was born on May 26, 1932, in Durham, NC to the late Willie David Wynne, Sr. and Wilma Nash Wynne. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 67 years, Ruth Rowe Wynne; brother, Alston Wynne; and sisters, Janie Dudley and Gracie Conway; and great grandson, Jordan Duke. Left to cherish his memory are children, Denisa Buck (Hal), Gary Wynne (Karen), both of Durham, and Susan (Rob) of High Point, NC; grandchildren, David Buck (Michelle), Jennifer Duke (Chris), Jeremy Wynne, and Shane Buck (Amy); great-grandchildren, Ashley Buck (Ari Reina), Tyller Buck, Jaxon Duke, Camron Duke, Caden Duke, Jossalyn Duke, Avary Buck, and Aiden Buck; great-great-grandchildren, Haley, Ariana and Aaden Reina.
Mr. Wynne proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. After his stint in the U.S. Navy, he went to work at the American Tobacco Company and retired after 35 years of service. He was a member of The Elks Lodge #568. “Decer”, as he was fondly known, loved fishing, traveling, ACC sports, and spending time with family and friends. He was a devoted member at Lowes Grove Baptist Church for many years.
A visitation will be held from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at Lowes Grove Baptist Church with a funeral service following at 2:00 p.m. Officiating will be Dr. Jim Baggett. Burial will follow at Lowes Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
