Wiloughby Charlie "W.C." Wheless

DURHAM- Mr. Wiloughby Charlie “W.C” Wheless, 92, passed away Saturday, December 24, 2022.

Mr. Wheless was born January 17, 1930 to the late William and Lena Wheless in Franklin County, NC. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Mr. Wheless was a 60-year charter member of Immanuel Free Will Baptist Church in Durham where he taught Sunday school. He worked 30 years with the North Carolina DMV as a Hearing Officer. Mr. Wheless was an avid fisherman, loved gardening and working in the yard. He was an avid fan of UNC athletics. Mr. Wheless was a firm believer in Jesus Christ and his family takes comfort knowing he’s in heaven. He will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Doreen Rice Wheless; son, Terry Wheless; brothers, Lee Wheless, Alva Wheless, James Wheless; sister, Wyvette Inscoe.

Mr. Wheless is survived by his son, Danny Wheless (Sue); granddaughters, Stephanie Wheless Willett (Nolan), and Tiffaney Wheless; grandson, Jeremy Wheless (Jessica), 10 great-grandchildren, and other loving family members.

Pallbearers will be Roger Thomerson, Ronald Turner, Johnny Rice and Jeff Upchurch.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, December 28, 2022 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 29, 2022 at Immanuel Free Will Baptist Church, 2013 Ellis Road, Durham, NC 27703. Officiating will be Pastor Jim Turnbough. Burial services will be private.

Flowers are acceptable.
