DURHAM- Mr. Winfred Claude Olive, 94, a lifelong resident of Durham, peacefully passed away on Friday, May 26, 2017. Mr. Olive was born on October 4, 1922 to the late William and Viola Olive.
Mr. Olive proudly served his country in the United States Army in World War II in the South Pacific as a Sergeant. He was a member of the Lowes Grove American Legion Post 416. Winfred was a member of Lowes Grove Baptist Church for over 60 years where he served in many capacities. He retired from Liggett and Myers Tobacco Company after 37 years of dedicated service. Winfred loved woodworking and the beach, but most of all he loved his family. He will be deeply missed by everyone blessed to have known him.
Mr. Olive is preceded in death by his wife Ruby Lee Lowe Olive and his parents.
Mr. Olive is survived by his son, Winfred Gary Olive; daughter, Lindy Olive Rogers and husband Keith; sister, Nellie Wayne Harwood; grandchildren, Andrew Rogers and his wife Wende and Kelsey Rogers and numerous other family members and friends.
Pallbearers will be James Adams, Lane Adams, James Lowe, Johnny High, Greg Jenkins, and Jerry Goodwin. Honorary pallbearers will be members of The Young Men’s Sunday School.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at Lowes Grove Baptist Church. Rev. Woody Freeze will officiate. Burial will follow at Lowes Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
