DURHAM Mrs. Arlawin “Winn” Shields Ladd, 86, of Durham, died on Sunday, March 1, 2015.
Winn was born in Oxford to the late Jeff Marion Shields and Dora Greer Shields. She was a retired seamstress with Durham Drapery and continued to sew for church and local organizations. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and a longtime member of Durham Wesleyan Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School. She taught Mother’s Morning Out at both Bethesda Baptist Church and Bethesda United Methodist Church. Winn was a smiling, loving, caring, giving, witty, joking lady. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elsmer Thompson Ladd, son-in-law, Robert E. Ladd III and granddaughter, Amanda Quick.
She is survived by her son, Kenneth Shields Ladd and wife, Ann of Colerain, N.C.; three daughters, Jean Kelly and husband, Clif of Cary, Patricia Ladd of Durham and Cindy Sue Leighton of Cary; sister, Joy Shields Warren of Roxboro; seven grandchildren, LTC Todd Kelly (Teri), Christopher Kelly (Krista), Jennifer McBride (Jamie), Tara Williams (Tracy), Brian Ladd (Shannon), Angela Smith (Rodney), and Kristi White (Erick); sixteen; great-grandchildren, Olivia and Katherine Kelly; Ethan, Camden, Amelia Kelly; Kristian, Nidia and Addison Grace McBride; Aiden, Aubrey and Melanie Williams; Allison and Cody Ladd; Zakk, Kayley Roze and Krystle Starr Smith; and 2 great-great-grandchildren, Kelsey Hawkins and Chloe Denby.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 1 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Chapel. Rev. Hugh O’Shields and Rev. Craig Gaither will officiate. Burial will be in Riverview UMC Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mike Warren, Jason Ladd, Joe Ladd, James Ladd, Henry Ladd and W. C. Blalock.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home and other times at the home of Jennifer McBride, 36 Oxmoor Drive.
