Zachary Lee "Jay" Byrd, Jr., 64, of Raleigh passed away Tuesday April 2, 2024, at his home. Jay, as he was fondly known, touched the lives of many with his warm heart and Kind spirit.
Born in Durham on September 17, 1959, to Zack Lee Byrd, Sr. and Lunette Whitman Byrd. Jay's passion for life was evident in everything he did. He was co-owner at Triangle Sign Company which flourished under his guidance, displaying his entrepreneurial spirit and creativity. Colleagues admired his work ethic and leadership.
Beyond his professional achievements, Jay found true joy in his role as a husband and father. Married to Lisa for nearly 40 years, their love was a shining example to all who knew them. Their son Brandon held a special place in Jay's heart, and their shared adventures created countless cherished memories.
Family was paramount to Jay, he treasured his relationship with his father Zack and all the things he had learned from him over the years.
Jay was predeceased by his mother Lunette Whitman Byrd.
Jay is survived by his wife Lisa of nearly 40 years; son, Brandon of Raleigh; father, Zack Byrd and wife Zelly; sister, Leticia Gadbois and husband Don of Creedmoor, NC; brother, Chris and wife Beverly of Stem, NC; brother-law, Barry Rollins and wife Maria of Chapel Hill, NC; nephews, Tyler Atkins. Jordan Byrd, Tristan Hardiman, and Matt Byrd; honorary family members Denise and Donna Monkovich Pell, as well as numerous friends and colleagues.
Jay had a passion for classic cars, often showing off his 1964 Corvette. He delighted in spending time with Brandon, whether jet skiing, boating, or enjoying leisurely rides on golf carts together.
A visitation will be held Saturday April 6, 2024,from 11:30 to 1 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home followed by a funeral service and 1 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Reverend Tim Wheeler.
Interment will be at Damascus Church Cemetery, 522 Damascus Church Road, Chapel Hill, NC
Pallbearers will be Tristan Hardiman, Don Gadbois, Tyrone Byrd, Shane Coker, Cliff Cox and Jason Whitman.
Flowers are acceptable or donations to Damascus Church, 522 Damascus Church Road, Chapel Hill, NC.
