Katie Burgess Barber

MORRISVILLE Mrs. Katie Burgess Barber, 88, of Morrisville, died on Friday, December 29, 2017.Mrs. Barber was born in Wake County, the daughter of the late Newton Henry Burgess and Elsie Watkins Burgess. She retired after 15 years from Square D in Knightdale. Mrs. Barber was a lifelong member of Sorrell’s Grove Baptist Church. She loved playing cards, bingo and square dancing and was a state champion singer in the 1940’s. She was a devoted mother and Christian. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Barber; sons, Joe Moe Barber and Todd Anthony Barber and 7 brothers and sisters.She is survived by two sons, William Terry Barber (Debbie), of Virginia and Tony Avis Barber, of Morrisville; daughter, Pansy Lee Brannan (David), of Garner; sisters, Elsie Lee Lynam (Melvin), of Georgia and Rosa Fuqua (Bill), of Roxboro; 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at 1 p.m. at Sorrell’s Grove Baptist Church in Morrisville, NC. Pastor Glenn Davis will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Randy Watkins, Gary Watkins, Phillip Adams, Russell Jenkins, Johnny Holsclaw and Johnny Brannan. Honorary pallbearer will be Bill Cooley.The family will receive friends on Monday, January 1, 2018 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home. Flowers are acceptable.
