Adele Florence Abramowitz, 65, died from uterine cancer on December 25, 2017 in Durham. She was born May 10, 1952 in Houston, Texas to Abe and Helen Rosenzweig and moved to Durham in 2004. A graduate of the University of Texas, she retired as a librarian from Houston Public Library where she managed telephone reference. She sang in the Triangle Jewish Chorale, the Durham “What’s Not to Like” Yiddish Concerts, and in Houston’s Beth Yeshurun Choir for over 25 years; was a life-time member of Hadassah, a regular blood donor, and a supporter of Jewish and animal welfare organizations. Adele shared her love of music, art, and travel with her husband of 24 years, Joel Abramowitz. She was also an avid mystery reader. Adele was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her husband, sister, Joyce Rosenzweig, brother, Robert Rosenzweig, brother- and sister-in-law Hyman and Barbara Abramowitz, and niece, Stephanie, who all loved and adored her. Special acknowledgements go to Marylin and Katelyn Turner, Merisuzan Forbes and Darlene Watkins who showered Adele with love, affection, and tenderness; as well as to a special community of caring friends that supported us during this difficult time. The funeral will take place at Beth El Synagogue (1004 Watts Street, Durham) on Wednesday, December 27, at 11:00 am followed by interment at Durham Hebrew Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Beth El Synagogue, the American Cancer Society, or the charity of your choice.
