Bernice Gerald Leonard

DURHAM- Mr. Bernice Gerald Leonard, 76, passed away August 21, 2018 at the VA Hospital.Mr. Leonard was born August 16, 1942 in Edgecombe County to the late Samuel and Hazel Leonard. He enjoyed gardening, working on cars, had a great mechanical ability and enjoyed doing anything outdoors especially fishing. He enjoyed going to the beach. Mr. Leonard was known for his great sense of humor and will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He will be deeply missed by everyone who was blessed to have known him. Mr. Leonard proudly served his country in the United States Navy.Mr. Leonard is preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Hazel Leonard; brother, Michael Leonard.Mr. Leonard is survived by his wife of 35 years, Doris Leonard; son, Steven Leonard; daughter, Ashley Leonard; step-son, Scott Allen (Kim); granddaughter, Leanne Leonard; brother, Charles Leonard (Hazel Shaw); sisters, Brenda Leonard and Barbara Leonard; sister-in-law, Louise Gower (Ronnie); nieces, Kim Young, Kellie Burke and Shelly Leonard.Graveside services will be held 12:00 p.m. Friday, August 24, 2018 at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens.
