Donald Lawrence Painter

DURHAM- Mr. Donald Lawrence Painter, 71, of Durham died on Saturday, March 8, 2014. He was a native and lifelong resident of Durham, the son of the late Lawrence Elwood Painter and Kate Bumpass Painter. He retired from GTE and ECS. He was a member of Gorman Baptist Church and the Seekers Sunday School Class. He loved antiques, gardening, fishing and camping.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Carol “Ann” Jarrett Painter, two sons, Doug Painter (Jenny) of Stem; Kevin Painter (Chelsea) of Rougemont; two daughters, Denise Sumner (John) of Youngsville; Wanda Honeycutt of Durham; one brother, Tom Painter (Sue) of Yulee, Florida; one sister, Pat Painter of Durham; eight grandchildren, Brant Painter (Tasia), Kristen Gonzalez (Joe`l), Katie Sumner, Zachary Sumner, Diana Honeycutt, Jerry Honeycutt Jr., Keith Painter, Eliza Painter, two great-grandchildren, Julian and Giovanni Gonzalez.

Funeral services will we held on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Gorman Baptist Church. Dr. C.J. Bordeaux  and Rev. Tim Wheeler will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Julius Goss, Vaughn Jarrett, Gary Haynes, Wayne Townsend, Jerry Jones, Brant Painter, Zachary Sumner and Wesley Warren. Honorary pallbearers will be Norman Walker, Hardy Currin, Colby Painter, Al Painter and Men and Women of Seekers Sunday School Class.

The family will receive friends on Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home and other times at the home.
