Dorothy Chandler Stephens

DURHAM Mrs. Dorothy Chandler Stephens, 85, of Durham, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, November 7, 2013.
Mrs. Stephens was a native and lifelong resident of Durham, the daughter of the late Charles Thomas Chandler, Sr. and Flonnie Barnett Chandler. She retired after 35 years as a machine operator for Liggett & Myers Tobacco Company. After retirement she volunteered at Durham Regional Hospital. She was a faithful and active member at Grove Park Chapel. She was preceded in death by her husband, Avery G. Stephens; her brother, Charles Thomas Chandler, Jr. and a sister, Marie Chandler Pierce.
She is survived by two sons, Larry Wayne Stephens and wife, Patricia of Raleigh and Michael Avery Stephens and wife, Debbie of Durham; four grandchildren, Melanie S. Downum, Mark P. Stephens, Alyson S. Weimar, Daniel Stephens and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Grove Park Chapel. Rev. Dale Brooks will officiate. Interment will be in Maplewood Cemetery.
