Edward Sherman “Ed” Godley

ROUGEMONT – Mr. Edward Sherman “Ed” Godley, 82, passed August 11, 2021.

Mr. Godley was born September 29, 1938 to the late George and Callie Mae Godley in Kinston, NC. Ed was an active member of Bethany Baptist Church and was previously a member of The Summit Church Homestead Heights.

Ed was a proud veteran of the US Air Force and also served Commander of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary FLO 92 for several years was a SCUBA instructor. Ed was a retired Lieutenant with Duke University Public Safety. He was a Lionel train enthusiast and enjoyed collecting and displaying them. Ed will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Godley is preceded in death by his brother, Robert Allen Godley.

Ed is survived by his wife, Yvonne Murray Godley; son, Rex Allen Godley (Pam) of Pittsboro, NC; daughter, Kim Godley Van Roy (Joe) of Rougemont, NC; sister, Frances Anne Bass of Maryland; grandchildren, Christopher Allen Godley (Ally), Michelle Van Roy (Adam), Adam Van Roy (Samantha), Chris Massey (Lindsey), Brandon Massey (Katie); and great-grandchildren, Jake Godley, Myles Massey, Owen Massey, Cayson Massey, Walker Massey, and Hunter Van Roy.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 14, 2021 at Bethany Baptist Church with a visitation being held one hour prior from 10:00 -11:00 a.m. Officiating will be Rev. Jeremy Quist. Masks will be required to enter the church.

Interment with military honors will be at the church cemetery across from the church.

Pallbearers will be Christopher Godley, Adam Van Roy, Chris Massey, Brandon Massey, Brett Hayes, Greg Murray, Bryan Murray and Adam Wyman.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Joe Salotti and Clem Morgan.
