Durham-Eleanor Butler Ricks, 77, of Durham died on Saturday, May 3, 2014. She was the daughter of the late Walton (Shorty) Butler and Narcissus Johnson Butler born on May 23, 1936 in Johnston Co. She was married to Raymond (Tom) Ricks. She lived most of her life in the Redwood Community, was a member of Grove Park Chapel and retired from Nortel. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Vicki Roberts, Erline Pittman, Shirley Butler and Betty Siders, one brother Charles Butler.
She is the beloved and awesome mother of six children, fourteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. The children Donna Stainback (Kerry- Kathryn, Kendel) Debra Young (Michael- Michelle, Lauren and Stacey) Pamela Williams and Gary McLean (Koren, Megan) Richard Ricks (Janice- R. Patrick, Melissa) Beverly “Becky” Mills (Morgan Brittany, Brandon) Bonnie Biggs (Michael- Christie, Daniel, Andrew). The great grandchildren are Ashton and Hunter Harrelson, Grant and Josie Anne Holt, Ella Grace and Lathan Allen, Barnes Kartes, Patrick Mills, Cruz and Mia Ilharramendy, two brothers, Robert and Michael Butler.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. at Grove Park Chapel, 805 Sherron Rd. Durham, NC. Pastor Dale Brooks will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Kendel Stainback, Daniel Biggs, Andrew Biggs, Brandon Mills, Todd Harrelson, Joseph Holt, Matt Kartes, Jonathan Allen and Justin Ilharramendy.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home and other times at the home of her daughter Bonnie Biggs, 5141 Swisswood Dr., Raleigh. Flowers are acceptable.
