DURHAM- Mr. Henry Claude Stamper, Jr., 82, of Durham died on Friday, July 11, 2014. He was the son of the late Henry Claude Stamper, Sr. and Pauline Franklin Stamper. He served in the Air Force during the Korea Conflict. Mr. Stamper loved to fly and had his own airplane. He was a member of Gorman Baptist Church, former member of First Trinity Baptist where he served as a deacon and a youth counselor. He graduated from Durham High School. He was preceded in death by his step-son Donald Compton, one brother Robert Houston Stamper, one sister, Marianne Stamper Widenhouse.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Dolinger Stamper, one brother, William Graves Stamper, two grandsons, James Compton and wife Kim, Matthew Compton and wife Laura, five nephews, Robert Houston Stamper Jr., Gary Widenhouse, Alex Widenhouse, Chris Widenhouse and Ashley Widenhouse; one niece, Margaret Stamper Koch.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 12:00 noon at Hudson Funeral Chapel. Dr. C. J. Bordeaux will officiate, Eulogy by James G. Dolinger. Burial will be in Carolina Memorial Gardens in Creedmoor. Active pallbearers will be James Compton, Aaron Dolinger, Matthew Compton, Steve Dolinger, Joe Dolinger and Wayne Perry.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 11:00 to 12:00 noon, one hour prior to the services at Hudson Funeral Home other times at the home, 3805 Vair Street. Flowers are acceptable or donations can be made to Gorman Baptist Church, 3315 E. Geer Street, Durham, NC 27704. Online condolences can be made at www.hudsonfuneralhome.com.
