Mrs. Jacksie Ann Watlington Crossman, age 91, passed away on January 8, 2022.
Jacksie was born on November 1, 1930, in Danville, VA, a daughter of the late Julius Spencer and Laura Jones Watlington. Mrs. Crossman was the State Highway Patrol Troop C Secretary in Durham for 20 years, until retirement in 1989. Prior to that, she worked at GE. She was also a member of the American Legion Post 7 Ladies Auxiliary. She spent the majority of her time serving actively in her church, Trinity Avenue Presbyterian Church, where she was a member for over 61 years.
Mrs. Crossman was happily married to Ralph H Crossman for over 48 years. At first, she spent all of her time and energy raising Jill. Jacksie and Ralph adopted Jill as a one-month-old in 1971 and devoted so much, ensuring that she had a stable and happy childhood. Mom cherished and took pride in her two granddaughters, Ashleigh and Courtney. She thoroughly enjoyed going to their recitals, ballgames, and graduations over the years. She loved to spend quality time with them.
Jacksie enjoyed gardening and planting flowers around the house every year, as she loved her sunflowers and her daffodils. Another favorite past time was needlepoint work. She really enjoyed traveling. Her major trips were to Acapulco, Mexico; from Spain to Paris, France; and Canada to visit relatives. Most of all, Jacksie was the most tender-hearted, kind, and positive person one would ever meet. She was known for giving compliments even up until her last few days of life.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Crossman was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Ralph Crossman; brother, Neal Watlington; and sisters, Helen Jean Watlington, Nancy Bryant, and Dorothy Stogner.
Mrs. Crossman is survived by her daughter, Jill C. Levine of Myrtle Beach, SC; sisters, Betty Watlington of Belhaven, NC and Sara W. Gunter of Durham, NC; and granddaughters, Ashleigh Levine and Courtney Levine.
Serving as Pallbearers will be Richard Bryant, Gray Comer, Will Gunter, Will O’Day, Noah Diquez, and John Watlington.
