DURHAM- Mr. James Dewey Crawley passed away Thursday, January 4th at his home with his wife by his side. James was born in Surgoinsville, TN on February 3rd, 1942 and had been a resident of Durham, NC for over 30 years.
He was a loving and caring husband, father and bigger than life. His smile and voice was big and will never be forgotten. He worked at PBM Graphics in Durham, NC as a pressman for years and enjoyed his work and took pride in his work. He enjoyed singing old country songs and playing his guitar on a front porch with friends and family. He was an avid car enthusiast.
James is preceded in death by his mother, Hazel Crawley and father Dewey Crawley.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Kathy Crawley; a daughter Jennifer Kruszewski; a stepson Johnny Vicars; two sons Jim Crawley and Ryan Crawley; 3 step grandchildren Coty Vicars, Katelyn Vicars and Emily Vicars; sisters Jo Derrick, Rose Derrick, Joyce Purinton, Faye and husband Blanard Collins; bothers Andrew (Andy) Crawley and Larry Crawly; sister in-laws Kay Davis and Eveyln and husband Jim Dean; brother in-laws Gary Davis and wife Dee, Don Davis and wife Katie, J.D Davis and wife Leta. He is also survived by many special nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
James also leaves behind a number of treasured friends and lifelong best friend Lee Derrick that was a big part of his life.
Pallbearers will be Dean Meyers, Tommy Davis, Chris Hartley, Chris Davis, Steve Bizzel, Dwayne Day and Honorary Pallbearer Ben James.
A memorial service will be held 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at Hudson Funeral Home. Officiating will be Rev. Forest Gale. A visitation will be held an hour prior from 6:00-7:00 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home. Burial will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at Lowes Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
