James Earl Spivey

CHAPEL HILL Mr. James Earl Spivey, 87 of Chapel Hill, died on Monday, April 2, 2018.
Mr. Spivey was born in Kenly, N.C. to the late William Spivey and Pansy Ricks Spivey. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army and was part of a select topographical mapping team prior to the Korean War. He was a builder and owned and operated Superior Builders of Durham, where he built over 700 homes along the East coast. He was a member of the Homebuilders Association. Mr. Spivey was a member of Palmers Grove Methodist Church. He loved teaching young people and was active in the Boy Scouts and was a Master Scout at Troop 423 for 11 years. After retirement he loved traveling all over the country and was a member of the Coachmen Camping Club. He was a loving father; avid Duke fan and loved people and he never met a stranger. He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Vickers Spivey; three brothers, Billy, Harold and John Spivey and a sister, Lois Narron.
He is survived by his son, Larry Wilson of Chapel Hill; three daughters, Regina Dufresne of Chapel Hill, Donna Lockamy (Steve) of Hillsborough and Denise Lane of Chapel Hill; son, Ricky Kelley and Rodney Kelley both of Georgia; two brothers, Ralph Spivey of Pine Level, N.C. and Jerry Spivey of Meridian, Miss.; sister, Peggy Spivey of Kenly; eight grandchildren, Vince Wilson, Matthew Wilson, Patrick Lockamy, Joshua Honeycutt, Stephanie Stephenson, Wayne Kelley, Amanda Kelley and Joseph Kelley; eight great-grandchildren, Maggie Wilson, Donavan Wilson, Duncan Wilson, Dazey Stephenson, Aimee Stephenson, Penelope Honeycutt, Haden Fudurich and Samuel Kelley.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, April 6, 2018 at 2 p.m. at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Vince Wilson, Patrick Lockamy, David Ennis, Matthew Wilson, Joe Sands, Joshua Honeycutt and Sam Coghill.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 5, 2018 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home. Flowers are acceptable. Online condolences can be made at www.hudsonfuneralhome.com.
