James Ervin Yeargan

DURHAM Mr. James Ervin Yeargan, 92, of Durham, died on Sunday, April 3, 2011. Mr. Yeargan was born in Orange County to the late William Chester and Bertha Wilkins Yeargan. He attended Orange County Schools and entered the U. S. Army on June 26, 1941. Serving during World War II, he participated in the Northern Solomon Campaign and the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign. He was honorably discharged on March 6, 1945. On April 20, 1946 he married Louise Shepherd Yeargan and she preceded him in death on February 21, 1977. He retired after 34 years from Liggett-Myers Tobacco Company. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Hubert Yeargan, Claiborne Yeargan, Meta Belcher and Velma Craig.He is survived by his son, Barry Yeargan and wife, Jo of Hillsborough; daughter, Kay Starling and husband, Larry of Atlantic Beach and grandchildren, Bryan Starling, Amy Starling, David Starling, Amy Riley and Will Dunkley.Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Chapel. Rev. Kenneth Forehand will officiate. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery.The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 1 to 2 p.m., prior to the service at Hudson Funeral Home.
