Mr. James Richard Slaughter, 88, went home to be with the Lord on May 23, 2022.
James was born January 1, 1934, a son of the late David Lee and Annie Bell Long Slaughter. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. Mr. Slaughter was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church. He worked over 40 years with Overnite Transportation as a Warehouse Supervisor. James enjoyed gardening at home in his “Produce Patch.” He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Slaughter was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Annie Wyvonia James Slaughter; brother, W.D. Slaughter; and sister, Barbara Ann Rigsbee.
Mr. Slaughter is survived by his sons, Darrell Slaughter (Pam) of Timberlake, Gary Slaughter of Durham, and Calvin Slaughter (Jamie) of Durham; daughter, Teresa Woods (Gary) of Rougemont; brother, Henry Slaughter (Dana); grandchildren, Elizabeth, Brian, Kristin, Kelly, Jenna, Erin, Emma, Callie, Colton, and Bryson; and great-grandchildren, Alexandria, Brendon, Chad, Landon, Mason, Ethan, Alaina, Raynee, Mikayla and Kylian.
A visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Friday, May 27, 2022 at Hudson Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 28, 2022 at Fellowship Baptist Church with Dr. Rick Finley officiating. A committal service with military honors will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
