Margie Rae Muckenfuss Faulkner

September 12, 1925 — May 28, 2018

DURHAM-After ninety-two years blessed with health, romance, family, friends and unlimited love, our beloved Margie Rae Muckenfuss Faulkner peacefully passed at home surrounded by her family in Durham, NC, on May 28, 2018. Margie lived her last six months enduring cancer with patience and grace. She was amazingly strong and miraculously pain-free, with faith in God’s plan.
Margie was born in Charleston, SC, on September 12, 1925, the only child of Isaac Washington Muckenfuss and Rachel Cumi Mizelle Muckenfuss. Margie fell in love with and married a charming young sailor, Ralph Gill Faulkner in 1944. They lived in Norfolk, San Francisco, San Diego, and Henderson (NC) before settling in Durham in 1955. Margie served as the secretary at Calvary Baptist Church for forty-three years, and remained a committed member for over fifty years. She was an amazing cook and tirelessly served anyone who came into her home. She will be remembered for her sweet spirit, her steadfast faith, and her unconditional love of her family.
She is survived by her daughters: Gail Faulkner Hudson and Kathy Matheson (Steve); Grandchildren: Steven Matheson (Gina), Cressent Pressly (Paul), Katie Collini (Chuck), Stephanie Swearingen, and Abigail Merritt (David); Great-grandchildren: Starlyn and Stormey Swearingen, Kacie and Eli Matheson, Cooper, Arey Gail, and Georgia Rae Pressly, Rachel and Finn Collini, and William and Wyatt Merritt; Devoted family friend: Judy Cutts; Grandchildren: Ryann and Jack Fleeman. Margie was pre-deceased by her parents and her husband, Ralph Faulkner. Margie, also known as “Mama” or “GG,” was the center of her family. She will be missed terribly, and remembered daily.
Services will be facilitated by Hudson Funeral Home with the following arrangements: Visitation with the family will be at Calvary Baptist Church on Thursday, May 31 at 11:00; Service will follow at noon; and Burial will be at New Sandy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Henderson, NC at 3:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Durham Literacy Center, American Cancer Society, or Duke Hospice, whose caregivers’ support and kindness was immeasurable.
