Marshall Howard Margolis

CHAPEL HILL- Mr. Marshall Howard Margolis, 76, passed away Saturday, January 20, 2018 at SECU Jim & Betsy Bryan Hospice Home.
Howard Margolis was born June 4, 1941 in Durham, NC to the late Samuel and Florence Margolis. He graduated from Durham High School in 1959 and Duke University in 1963. Mr. Margolis proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Reserves.
Mr. Margolis was very active in the Durham-Chapel Hill Jewish Community where he enjoyed services at Beth El Synagogue, Judea Reform Congregation, and Chapel Hill Kehillah.
Howard was a proud Eagle Scout who kept his Eagle Scout card in his wallet up until his passing. Mr. Margolis for many years participated in the Civitan Club, the Toastmasters and loved to go to the Triangle Singles Dances. In Howard’s later years he was a mentor to medical students at UNC.
Howard never met a stranger and will be remembered as an outgoing, good natured man who loved people and had often a sense of humor which he gladly shared. He especially loved spending time with his family.
Mr. Margolis is preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Florence Margolis.
Mr. Margolis is survived by his daughters, Elizabeth C. Margolis, Tamar Margolis Montanez (Rick); son, Joseph H. Margolis and partner, Marion McMahon; brothers, Larry B. Margolis (Terry Pomerantz), Rodney Jay Margolis (Carol Ann); grandchildren, Christopher Kapornyai (Felicity), Chadwick Weaver; great-granddaughter, Lilah Kapornyai; nieces, Tzivia Margolis, Reena Margolis; nephews, Michael Margolis (Adva), Daniel Margolis (Beth), Adam Margolis; great-niece, Hannah Margolis; great-nephew, Samuel Margolis.
Graveside services will be held 2:30 p.m. Sunday, January 21, 2018 at Durham Hebrew Cemetery near the Old Maplewood Cemetery
