Mary Helen Tillman George

Mrs. Mary Helen Tillman George, 93, formerly of Durham, died on Thursday, May 18, 2017. She had lived in Apex for four years. Mrs. George was native and lifelong resident of Durham. She was the daughter of the late Rufus Clarence Tillman, Sr. and Mary Hayes Poe Tillman. She was a member of Leesville Road Baptist Church and Hilltop Baptist Church. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, traveling and attending church. Prior to her declining health she was member of the PTA and enjoyed working with the Cub Scout as a leader and den mother. She was also a cancer survivor. She was preceded in death by her, husband, Julian Clinton George, Sr.; brothers, Rufus C., Julian Carr, John Robert, and George James Tillman. She is survived by her sons, Gary George and wife, Patricia of Wake Forest, Julian “Buddy” George, Jr. and wife, Sandra of Durham; daughter, JoAnn Clark of Apex; grandchildren, Nikki Starling (Joe), Johnnie Starnes (Tammy), Jonathan George, Jason George (Sarah), Brian Clark, Jason Clark (Jill) and Stacy Allen (Brian); great-grandchildren, Braxton and Lydia Allen, Karlee and Kailee Theobald, Lauren, Harper, Hayden Clark, Brittany Jackson, Cody and Stevie, Casey and Justin Starnes and great-great-grandchild, Shaylen.Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Leesville Road Baptist Church. Pastor Damon Williamson and Rev. Jeffrey Jones will officiate. Burial will be in Brier Creek Memorial Gardens.
