OXFORD, NC – Mary Ann Smith Zeits, 71, passed away Friday, September 7, 2018.
Mrs. Zeits was born July 16, 1947 to the late Needham, Sr. and Evelyn Smith in Durham, NC. Mrs. Zeits was a homemaker, she had lived in Oxford, NC for the past 18 years and was a member of the First Assembly of God. Mrs. Zeits dearly loved all of her family and was very proud of them. She loved cats and rescued animals, she was an animal rights activist and was lovingly know as “the crazy cat lady.”
Mrs. Zeits was preceded in death by her parents, Needham, Sr. and Evelyn Smith; a son, James Carey; sisters, Betty Lou Massey, Bobbie Jean Pulley, Rose Champion; grandchild, Rebecca Carey.
Mrs. Zeits is survived by her husband, David Zeits; sons, Tracy Carey (Rose) of Stem; Charles Carey (Tina) of Stem; brother, Needham M. Smith, Jr. (Jeannie) of Hillsborough, NC; sisters, Trudy Black (Buddy) of Oxford, NC; Edith Wrenn (George) of Timberlake, NC; grandchildren, Tyler Speillman, Tracy Carey, Jr., David Carey, Nicholas Clark, Benjamin Clark, Susan Carey, Mary Rose Carey, Faith Carey, Emma Carey, Lilly Carey, Olivia Carey, Samuel Carey, Allison Carey, Morgan Carey, Mary Beth Carey; great grandchildren, Braden Carey, Luke Carey, Daniel Carey, Oliver and James.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at Hudson Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be from 12:30-2 p.m. prior to the service. Officiating will be Rev. Jimmy Hall. Burial will follow at South Granville Memorial Gardens.
