Richard Larry Watkins, Sr.

DURHAM- Mr. Richard Larry Watkins, Sr., 75, passed away Sunday, October 1, 2017 at Transitions Life Care.

Mr. Watkins was born July 12, 1942 in Durham, NC to the late Percy and Dora Watkins. He worked for Daniels Construction as a Mechanic for Pipe Insulation for over 15 years. He loved NASCAR. Mr. Watkins was a member of Sorrell’s Grove Baptist Church for over 70 years. He will be remembered as a hardworking man who will be deeply missed.

Mr. Watkins was preceded in death by his parents, Percy and Dora Watkins; step-daughter, Susan Phillips; sister, Donna Allen.

Mr. Watkins is survived by his son, Richard L. Watkins, Jr.; brother, Gary Watkins (Susan); sister, Linda Moore (Ronnie); grandchildren, Hannah, Emily, Timothy, Hailey, James, and Melody; 3 nieces; 3 nephews.

Pallbearers will be Donald Carpenter, Johnny Bridges, Tony Barber, Randy Watkins, Tommy Watkins, and Rick Brumfield.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 5, 2017 at Sorrell’s Grove Baptist Church. Officiating will be Pastor Glenn Davis. Burial will follow at Sorrell’s Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. A visitation will be held Wednesday, October 4, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home.
