Robert “Bob” Neelley Church, Jr., age 90, formerly of Bristol, TN, and currently of Wake Forest, NC passed away on Friday, April 13, 2018 at Duke Home Care & Hospice Hock Family Pavilion in Durham, NC. He was born in Atlanta, Georgia, a son of the late Robert Neelley Church, Sr., and Effie Holt Church. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife of sixty-one years, Blanche Cason Church.
Bob served in the United States Navy in WWII and was a servant of the Lord Jesus who didn’t lie or offer excuses. He believed your attitude determined your outlook on life and boy was he right! He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Bristol, Tennessee, and served as District Lay Leader, Trustee, Sunday school teacher and choir member and he thoroughly enjoyed every role. Bob worked as a sales manager for Kraft Foods for more than three decades and loved his job and the people he worked with. He had fun playing golf, playing tennis, and gardening, but his greatest pleasure came in taking love meals, prepared by Blanche and her friends, to the shut-ins of First United Methodist Church of Bristol. Bob’s life was blessed!
He is survived by his daughter, Jill Church McMahon and husband Tom; two grandsons, Matthew McMahon and Michael McMahon; and one great granddaughter, Ruby McMahon, all of North Carolina.
Committal Service and Entombment will be held Monday, April 16, 2018 at 2:00 PM in the Heritage Chapel of Memories at Glenwood Cemetery in Bristol, TN with Pastor Bill Fowler officiating. Military Honors will be rendered by the Bristol VFW Honor Guard Post #6975 and members of the Navy Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made C/O to Grace Assembly, 2405 Wait Avenue, Wake Forest, NC 27587. A water well will be dug in his honor in a village that’s never had clean water.
Arrangements especially for Mr. Church and his family have been made through Oakley-Cook Funeral Home & Crematory.
