DURHAM Russell Odom was a loving, caring, responsible person, from an early age. Born in Edgecombe Co., NC on 04 July 1928, he was a depression baby and he lived his life, forever sculpted by the principles he was forced to learn as a child of that time: hard work, honesty, responsibility. He breathed his last breath, peacefully, at his home and with two daughters present. He was a self-taught master carpenter, first, then became a building contractor and built a thriving custom built homes business in Durham, NC, along with his wife, “Tootsie”. While Russell did what fathers did in the 1940’s through 1960’s (work!). Tootsie took care of anything that would aid him in completing that work, plus raising their children. Later, they joined a bottle club and got to travel all over the USA, plus making dear friends. Most of his customers adored him, as evidenced by the fact that he built starter homes, then larger homes and back to empty-nest homes for several customers. After he became a landlord, most of his tenants adored/still adore him!Russell was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ila “Tootsie” Odom in 2014. His late parents were Sidney and Blanche Odom. He took care of all them, all of us, and his in-laws in a fierce way!He is survived by his daughters, Carol S. Moore, Cheryl Odom White and Marguerite Odom Peaden, as well as a dearly beloved son-in-law, Van Peaden; son, Kevin B. Odom and grand-dog, Slick.
