Shirley Faye Benson Byrd

DURHAM- Mrs. Shirley Faye Benson Byrd, 86, passed away Friday, August 24, 2018 at her home.
Mrs. Byrd was born May 10, 1932 to the late Lunde and Eliza Benson in Johnston County, NC. She was a Beautician for many years. Mrs. Byrd was a member of Olive Branch Baptist Church, Bethesda Ruritan Club since 2001, Jolly Group, Eastern Star for 15 years, Primetimers member, Women’s Auxiliary, and was the Hairdresser for Hudson Funeral Home for many years. Mrs. Byrd loved crafts of all kinds, cooking, traveling, camping and shopping at Walmart. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother.
Mrs. Byrd is preceded in death by her husband, Rubert Byrd of 68 years; parents, Lunde and Eliza Benson; brothers, Bennie Ray Benson, Colan Benson, Odell Benson, Gerald Benson; sisters, Gertrude Wright, Willow Dean Byrd and Margaret McCormick.
Mrs. Byrd is survived by her sons, Bruce Byrd of Durham, NC, Wayne Byrd of Durham, NC; daughter, Deborah Hearn and husband Ronald of Durham, NC; brother, Jasper Denton Benson of Durham; grandchildren, Monica Byrd White, Ashley Thomas, Bridgett Byrd, Tabitha Byrd; great-grandchildren, Victoria White Appel, Christian White, Justin White, Cassady White, Jaxon Thomas, Jace Thomas; great-great grandchildren, Ryleigh Appel, Aaydn Appel, Brayden White; special friend, Gaynelle McGee.
Pallbearers will be Justin White, Christian White, Randy Benson, Lavon Benson, Tommy Johnson and Dennis Johnson.
A visitation will be held Monday, August 27, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home and other times at the home. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at Olive Branch Baptist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Tim Wheeler and Rev. Hugh O’Shields. Burial will follow at Olive Branch Baptist Church Cemetery.
