Shirley Mae Morris

May 31, 1935 — April 7, 2010

Shirley Mae Wheeley Morris, 74, of 4135 Morton Lane, died on Wednesday, April 7, 2010. Mrs. Morris was born in Orange County to the late Arnold and Dorothy Duncan Wheeley. She was a member of Old Fashion Independent Baptist Church and served as a Missionary for 36 years in the West Indies and the United States. Her first Missionary trip was to Jamaica in the early 60’s with Brother and Sister Wood. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Morris and second husband, Bruce Rogers. She is survived by one son, Durwood Morris and wife, Lorrie of Rockledge, Fla.; two daughters, Deborah Holleman and husband, Larry of Durham and Lynn Ligon and husband, Mike of Creedmoor; three brothers, David Wheeley of Roxboro, Wayne Wheeley of Virginia and Ronnie Wheeley of Oxford; two sisters, DeLinda Machado of Henderson and Judy Walls of Stem; twelve grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Hudson Funeral Chapel, officiated by Rev. Bill Lawrence. Burial will be in the Tally Ho Baptist Church Cemetery in Stem. Active pallbearers will be George Brackett, Mark Brackett, Jason Wheeley, Alan Wheeley, Gary Wheeley and Tony Wheeley. The family will receive friends on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home.
