CARY- Mr. Stanley Samuel Wittenberg, 89, passed away Friday, September 15, 2017 at UNC Hospital.
Stan was born October 14, 1927 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Louis and Esther Wittenberg. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy in World War II. Following his years of military service, Stan began his career in electronics, and then proceeded into Medical Sales. Stan was known as the puzzle man as he spent many hours working on jigsaw puzzles in the Waltonwood Community. He was a dedicated and selfless caregiver. Stan will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather and loved by everyone fortunate to have known him.
Stan is preceded in death by his wives, Shirley Wittenberg and Ila Wittenberg; parents, Louis and Esther Wittenberg; brother, Irving Wittenberg; sister, Mildred Wittenberg, and grandson, Andrew Gintis.
Stan is survived by his son, Lawrence Wittenberg; daughter, Marsha W. Gintis and husband, Warren; brother, Marcus Wittenberg and wife, Doris; grandchildren, Haley Gintis, Morgan Wittenberg, Erica Wittenberg, and Seth Wittenberg.
Graveside services will be held 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at Judea Reform Congregation Cemetery, 2560 Jones Ferry Road, Chapel Hill, NC 27516. Officiating will be Rabbi Ariel Edery.
