My prayers and sympathies are given to the Christian family. I worked with Don C Christian Co for about ten years in the 80s until 1992. I worked close with Steve for a good while. All of his stories about the fire department and police department is what got me interested in the fire service. I only left them to start my career at the fire department. Thank you all for helping a very young married guy learn to work of HVAC and then the fire service.

My sincere condolences to Steve's family. He was a true man, a man of God, family and his community. He was so very passionate about the Shriners, and the great things they did. I always loved listening to him, being so proud of what they did and explaining to me all they did and how it was accomplished. He was always so positive and very smart. He spoke often of his family. A truly great man who will be so very missed, respected and remembered.

When I was 10 years old, I took a trip to Washington DC with the Durham City School's Safety Patrol. Steve was one of the many chaperones for the trip. When I decided to become a Mason, one of the first people I saw that I recognized was Steve. As Worshipful Master of Oak Grove #750, I served as his Junior and Senior Deacon. As I became Worshipful Master myself, he served as my Secretary. I took his place as Secretary several years later. Always a kind word, always a story to tell. He meant so much to so many. Today I received word that he has gone to that House Not Made With Hands Eternal in the Heavens. Words can not describe the sense of loss I feel right now. I want just one more smoke break on the sidewalk. Until we meet again my friend and my brother. In Loving Memory: Brother Steve L. Christian. SMIB
