Virginia Martin Gooch Sessoms

A combined visitation and service will be held for Lonnie “Doodie” Wayne Matthews, Sr. and Virginia Martin Gooch Sessoms.

Mrs. Virginia Martin Gooch Sessoms, 85, passed away on July 3, 2022.

Virginia was born April 21, 1937, in Durham, NC, a daughter of the late James and Elizabeth Wright Gooch. She was a devoted Duke Blue Devils Fan. Virginia was a big time, avid bowler. She enjoyed bowling so much, that even some family members became involved with it. She loved her family dearly and enjoyed family trips to the beach. Virginia will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Sessoms was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Sessoms, Sr.; the father of her children, Lonnie “Doodie” Wayne Matthews; daughters, Karen Matthews and Cindy Buck; brother, Jimmy Gooch; and sister, Katherine Yeatts.

Mrs. Sessoms is survived by her son, Lonnie “John” Wayne Matthews, Jr.; daughter, Kathy Marcinowski; stepsons, Chuck Sessoms (Robbie) and Robert Sessoms (Sandra); grandchildren, Rod Matthews, Clint Matthews, Amber Browning, Matt Terry, Brooks Buck, Samantha Buck, Lindsey Matthews, Jeffery Dunn, Luther Dunn,  Jeremy Dunn, Josh Sessoms, Chrystal Sessoms, Amy Sessoms, Cory Sessoms, Denver Sessoms, Blake Parker, Anthony Mercer as well as 28 great-grandchildren and a great-great granddaughter; and longtime friend, Barbara Appel.

A visitation will be held from 10:30 – 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 9, 2022, at Hudson Funeral Home with a memorial service following at 11 a.m. in the Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Hugh O’Shields.
