William Edward Ennis, Sr.

DURHAM Mr. William Edward Ennis, Sr. 91, of Durham, passed away at his home on Tuesday, May 03, 2016.
Mr. Ennis was born in Johnston County, the son of the late Herman Earl Ennis and Rena Moore Ennis. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a WWII veteran. After retiring from Duke University as Paint Department Manager he was employed with Electrolux. He was a member of Bethesda Baptist Church. William and Elsie enjoyed traveling with family and friends all of their lives. He loved spending time around the pool, gardening and taking long breaks that included a sandwich, Pepsi and a nap. He was preceded in death by his wife Elsie Mitchell Ennis, son, William Edward Ennis, Jr.; brothers, Michael Wayne Ennis, Earl Ennis and a sister, Jacqueline Rouse.
He is survived by his four daughters, Tena Whitten Clark (Ray), Frances Ennis Watson (Brooks), Sue Ennis Wadford, and Jane Ennis Utley (Lou); brother, Donald Ray Ennis, Sr.; daughter-in-law, Robin Ennis Pridgen (widow of Edward);grandchildren, Kevin Whitten (Melanie), Michael Watson (Natalie), Stacy Watson (Jeremy Harris, fiancé) , Eddie Ennis, Alicia Ennis Russell, Donnie Wadford (Teresa), Chris Wadford (Jamie), Dana Wadford Stansbury (John), and Nichole Utley; great-grandchildren, Chelsea Whitten, Kendall Whitten, April Whitten, Kylie Russell, Kacie Russell, Brittany Wadford, Andrew Wadford, Blake Wadford, Kolby Wadford, Conor Wadford, Justin Stansbury and Brooklyn Stansbury.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 6th at 11:30 a.m. at Bethesda Baptist Church. Rev. Hugh O’Shields and Rev. Clay Stevens will officiate. Pallbearers will be Kevin Whitten, Donnie Wadford, Chris Wadford, Michael Watson, Eddie Ennis, John Stansbury and Jeremy Harris. The family will have a private family burial prior to the service.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home and other times at the home, 827 Glenco Road.
