William “Gene” Eugene Frye

November 11, 1947 — January 15, 2021

GRANVILLE – Mr. William “Gene” Eugene Frye, 73, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, January 15, 2021.

Mr. Frye was born on November 11, 1947 to Everett Eugene Frye and Mary Edna Chestnut Frye in Sampson, NC. After high school, Gene joined the U.S. Army where he proudly served his country in Germany. He made his career as an electrician and spent more than 20 years at Quality Electric where he made numerous friends throughout his employment. During his time with Quality Electric, he was a Foreman with Blue Cross Blue Shield.

Gene was always an avid deer hunter and also enjoyed fishing with his family. His happiness was found anywhere with his family, 30 feet up in a stand, with a fishing pole in his hand, and outdoors with his nephew, brother in-laws, or very close friends by his side. Not only was Gene a fun and loving family man, he was also a quiet, reserved, and mellow man. Gene was a great husband and an amazing representation of a father. He had an amazing heart and was a great provider. He was a great brother, uncle, “Poppie”, & friend. In all those roles he made many wonderful memories. He will be remembered as a loving family man and the memories made with him will always be cherished by anyone who knew him.

Mr. Frye was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Edna Chestnut Frye; and his sister, Geneva F. Walker.

Mr. Frye is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Doreen Fetterman Frye; daughter, Amber Dickinson (Kyle); son, B.J. Smith (Jessica); sister, Brenda F. Tucker; grandchildren, Megan Smith, Ella Smith, Kody Dickinson; and very loved nieces and nephews who mostly knew him as “JuJu”.

Gene will be deeply missed by all his family & friends. The family would like to express their gratitude for all the prayers and encouragement for Gene through his battle.

In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made to: BCAN (Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network) NC Triangle Chapter in Loving Memory of William Frye.
